Sandy Buck, board president of SOS Food Bank. The National Association of Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger food drive encourages residents to leave donations of non-perishable food items next to their mailboxes Saturday morning to be collected by mail carriers. This years' local donations will benefit SOS Food Bank.
This weekend, locals can fill a yellow bag they received in the mail with canned and other non-perishable goods to benefit the Spirit Of Sharing (S.O.S) Food Bank in New Braunfels.
Residents will place the filled bags by their mailbox Saturday morning, and the mail carriers will deliver the donations to the food bank.
The food donated through the National Association of Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive helps carry the food bank through the summer while kids may not be receiving daily meals at school, Hock said.
In regard to the S.O.S. Food Bank’s most needed items at the moment, board member Alison Hock pointed to peanut butter, jelly, macaroni, canned fruits and canned meats.
S.O.S buys anything it does not receive in donations from the San Antonio Food Bank. In April, S.O.S Food bank served 333 families and 972 individuals, Hock said.
S.O.S. Food Bank volunteers said they are thankful for the mail carriers’ support in this drive, and Hock emphasized that all the donated food benefits the local community.
