Before we know it, flowers will be blossoming, birds will be chirping, and spring’s best fashion finds will be selling out. To stay ahead of the sartorial curve, we reached out to a handful of experts at some of our favorite retailers. From market directors to the heads of buying departments, we’ve tapped the best of the best for insights into what they predict will be the pièces de résistance of spring 2024.

While each retailer has a very different customer base, there are a few similarities across the board. One: The only shoe that matters continues to be the comfortable flat, be it a mesh ballet flat or a rustic leather loafer. And two: The easiest way to update any wardrobe for the season is with a must-have It handbag, like Bottega Veneta’s oversized Hop tote or The Row’s minimalist India bag. Let’s not spoil everything here. Keep scrolling to discover all the items that made the cut this season.

The red dress is trending for spring! Red is an instant mood lifter and a standout color for spring. With so many pops of red on the runway this season, from ready-to-wear to shoes and bags, the red dress makes a bold statement and is bound to turn heads when you make an entrance in one of these knockout dresses.

Top-handle bags are all the rage. From The Row’s signature Margaux tote to Loro Piana’s top-handle and mini styles for day to night, it’s an iconic shape that is classic and timeless.

The ballet flat has been a big hit since its return, and customers simply cannot get enough of flat shoes. For spring, we are seeing more polished and refined flats—some with a little pointed toe or a square toe—or skimmers. They are the perfect choice for spring. —Roopal Patel, SVP, fashion director, Saks Fifth Avenue

Alaïa’s newest shoulder bag is the moment right now. The elongated shape and shoulder strap make it a sensible bag to take you from day to night, and it has a ladylike sensibility, which we have seen shine through recent collections. This piece maintains its minimal, sleek design while still possessing that cool factor we all crave.

We loved seeing primary colors infused into spring collections, and this striking green set from new brand Destree perfectly encapsulates this mood. The elevated design, wide color offering, and popularity of the brand (thanks to Sofia Richie) have us suspecting this will be a bestseller for spring.

No seasonal wish list is ever complete without something from Khaite. My must-have RTW piece of the season is a Khaite tank dress. We just launched an exclusive showstopping organza number that I hope to get my hands on. The Row’s oversized tank dresses are sure to prove popular for the customer looking to play into the chic-sportif trend.

Prada’s colorful satin kitten heels have all the makings of the season’s It shoe. These styles provide the perfect amount of polish to any look and don’t compromise on comfort with a low heel.

The classic New England preppy style gets a designer update—we’re loving the purposely scuffed leather of this Miu Miu boater-style loafer.

It’s all about bags big enough to fit your essentials, and the JW Anderson oversized tote is perfect.

The Toteme T-lock bag is a brilliant investment for spring. I personally love the white grained-leather version to style with Raey’s fluid trench coat and a pair of wide-leg denim jeans.New to Matches this season, Marie Adam-Leenaerdt is a true design talent to invest in now. Her collections explore themes that speak to tailoring but with an interesting design twist. Every look truly considers how it will be transformative for the customer but also highly wearable. I am investing in the oversized shirting this season. The Row’s Ava Mary Jane is still the ultimate flat to invest in and continues to be one of our best-selling styles.

Sheer is here for spring, but it is important to find the best version for you. Longer lengths in a pencil silhouette are super flattering. This version from Alaïa will be a hot ticket (along with the latex style) this spring.—Liane Wiggins, head of womenswear, Matches

The season’s clear color story is a beautiful palette of barely-there hues, including pale sky blue, mint, pistachio, powdery rose, and other soft shades. This Akris Punto dress perfectly combines these barely-there hues into a simple silhouette.

One of the biggest themes this season was the return to American sportswear, featuring classics so good they stand the test of time and make getting dressed easier. This Brunello Cucinelli cotton suit (jacket + pants) will not only make you feel polished but will be a great wardrobe staple for years to come, worn together or separately.

Spring’s mood leans toward a gentle, feminine, and sophisticated sensibility, thanks to refreshing shades of white, cream, and stone—this Carolina Herrera dress is the perfect amount of feminine and romantic.

A go-to for several seasons now, flats continue to be an important shoe to have in your regular rotation. Equal parts comfortable and stylish, the highly sought after metallic Miu Miu is a great update to the classic ballet style. —Jodi Kahn, VP of luxury fashion, Neiman Marcus

Living in Los Angeles, I love to wear a wintry spring short that can also add some warmth, so these virgin-wool fleece shorts by Rier are a must-have this season. Style them with these Bottega Veneta sock shoes for a cozy and complete look.

We’re still seeing some fantastic sales across ballerina flats, so we’re especially excited to see our best-selling ballerinas from Alaïa offered this season in this neutral tone. They’re absolutely perfect for the spring-summer season.
